Allison Neale – Alto Saxophone & Flute
March 14 @ 8:00 pm - 11:00 pm
Entrance £8.00, non-members £11.00 – 50% reduction for students
Allison, has been described by Jazz Review as having ‘an alto sound like brushed velvet’. She started playing by ear at an early age, assimilating the stylistic approach of many players, but above all Paul Desmond and Art Pepper. Allison spent her formative years playing alto in the Midland Youth Jazz orchestra where she had the opportunity to perform with many leading international artists. Holding the flute chair in the National Youth Jazz Orchestra between 1996 and 1998 propelled her development and in no time Allison was a well sought after musician. She has performed alongside international artists such as Bud Shank, Scott Hamilton and featured in the John Dankworth Generations Band and Back to Basie. Her 2015 CD ‘I Wished on the Moon’ which includes Nat Steele on vibraharp and Leon Greening on piano is highly recommended and, in the Guardian, was awarded four stars by Dave Gelly. An extremely melodic & lyrical approach to jazz gives Allison a wide appeal and we welcome her return to Googlies.
Allison will be accompanied by the Googlies Quartet: Hilary Cameron piano & vocals, Julie Walkington bass, Ted Rockley saxophones and John Jarvis drums.
