Simon is one of Britain’s finest saxophonists. He was described by the late Humphrey Lyttelton as ‘formidable’ and The Guardian said of Simon ‘Straight-ahead, high energy jazz is his line and he does it with aplomb’. Celebrated jazz leaders and bands with whom he has worked have included Sir John Dankworth, Stan Tracey, Peter King and The Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Orchestra. Simon has an outstanding technique, plays with energy and invention and tours the country with his own Quartet. He is also a highly respected author and his biography of Tubby Hayes ‘The Long Shadow of The Little Giant’ is recognised as a classic. He has won several Awards including Best British Tenor Saxophonist and Best CD of the year, culminating in his Services to British Jazz Award in 2016. Recently, Simon was appointed to the Board of Patrons of the Jazz Centre UK alongside Sir Michael Parkinson, Dame Cleo Laine, Jools Holland and Van Morrison.
