House Band

The Colin Peters Quartet

The Colin Peters Quartet has been together since October 2001 and in that time it has amassed a comprehensive repertoire that consists of ‘standards’, jazz classics and original material.

Each member of the quartet has made an individual contribution to the style and presence of the group, which has enabled it to develop a character of its own.

The overall musical feel of the band is of post war jazz (that, after 50 plus years, is still somewhat quaintly referred to as ‘modern jazz’) with influences that include Mainstream, Latin, Bebop and some more recent musical developments.

In addition to performing at Googlies, the quartet is often heard at a variety other clubs, private and corporate functions, it is equally at home entertaining jazz devotees in a club or providing music for dinners, cocktail receptions or parties, with a vocalist or augmented with more musicians as required.

Personnel Profiles
Colin Peters is the pianist and director of the quartet’s music. Colin’s musical career is longer than he cares to admit but whatever else his experience has given to him, it has resulted in the ability to apply great sensitivity and tastefulness to everything he plays. Accompanying the range of styles exhibited by our many different guests is a challenge to which Colin rises.

The multi instrumentalist Bill Yeomans has been with the quartet since August 2006 since when he has made significant contributions to the performance of the quartet and the music at Googlies.  Playing imaginative and thoughtful jazz on baritone sax, tenor sax, alto sax, soprano sax  and flute, Bill's presence has been greatly appreciated by members of the audience, the other members of the quartet and the visiting guest musicians,  all of whom enjoy Bill's technique, style and approach to jazz.

The most recent addition to the quartet is bassist Wally Shaw.  Wally has a long musical history that includes playing at The Flamingo in the 60s and working 'The Boats' as a full time musician.  As well as playing bass Wally is a more than competent pianist and his all round musical expertise enables him to contibute greatly to the quartet's increasing versatiltiy.

John Jarvis (aka J.J.) is the drummer who, with Wally, provides the rhythm and drive that complements the guests and other members of the quartet. J.J.’s enthusiasm and energy are enhanced by his willingness to listen and respond sensitively to those he accompanies.

If you wish to add that ‘touch of class' to your special event by engaging the Quartet, you can make the necessary arrangements through the club’s reservation telephone number or e-mail address.
