Nat Steele – Vibes
18th April 2019 @ 8:00 pm - 11:00 pm
Entrance £8.00, non-members £11.00 – 50% reduction for students
Described by none other than Clark Tracey as “One of the best vibes players that this country has ever produced”, Nat has established himself as a firm favourite at Googlies, his mastery of the beguiling vibraphone is simply astonishing. Following the style of Milt Jackson, Nat takes a two mallet approach to improvisation, focussing on melodic interpretation and a great swing feel as can be heard on his quartet’s CD ‘Portrait of the MJQ’, which received rave reviews in BBC Music Magazine and from Dave Gelly in the Observer. With innate musicality, taste and technique in abundance, Nat’s performances are always worth catching.
Nat will be accompanied by a superb Quartet: Bill Yeomans saxophones and flute, Peter Billington piano (who recently made a brilliant first appearance at Googlies, much enjoyed and appreciated by all present), Julie Walkington bass and John Jarvis drums.
