SUMMARY:JULIAN STRINGLE AND PETE NEIGHBOUR PLAYING CLARINETS GOOGLIES THURSDAY MARCH 5 2026
DESCRIPTION:Doors open at 7pm. \nTwo childhood friends reunite on clarinet for an evening of pure swing sophistication. \nJulian claimed Best Clarinettist at the British Jazz Awards twice – in 2006/7 and again in 2019. Sir John Dankworth called him “the best clarinettist to emerge in British jazz for decades.” High praise\, but earned. His influences range from Benny Goodman and Artie Shaw through to Eddie Daniels and Oscar Peterson\, with Delius thrown in for good measure.\nA child prodigy\, Julian trained at the Latymer Music School before studying clarinet with Wilf Keeley and composition with William Lloyd Webber at London College of Music. His playing blends melodic grace with technical brilliance that excites purists and newcomers alike. \nPete Neighbour grew up in east London and let music carry him around the world. Classically trained but jazz-obsessed\, he lives for the swing era. His clarinet has graced stages from the Royal Albert Hall to the Lincoln Centre\, from Singapore jazz clubs to the Palace of Versailles.\nHe’s played private parties for Prince Charles\, Michael Caine and Mick Jagger. He performed at President Obama’s inaugural ball in 2009. The Cannes Film Festival\, the Orient Express\, the House of Lords – Pete’s played them all. \nTwo clarinet masters\, one shared history\, countless hours of swing. Welcome back\, gentlemen.

SUMMARY:THE DENMARK STREET BIG BAND
DESCRIPTION:We welcome The Denmark Big Band to Googlies on Sunday March 8. \nThere’s no doubt musical director Paul Burch will bring the swagger and fire of the golden big band era to Googlies. \nPaul handpicked every musician for the Denmark Street Big Band for their stellar credentials and the chemistry they share from years of playing together. These aren’t session players thrown together for a gig. Burch recruited friends and colleagues from his days with the Coldstream Guards and from luxury cruise liner orchestras. The lineup reads like a who’s who of British jazz excellence. Band members have shared stages with music royalty and filled West End orchestra pits night after night. This promises to be the same kind of electricity that defined the Basie\, Ellington and Goodman orchestras. \nThe band takes its name from Denmark Street\, the London thoroughfare that pulses at the heart of Britain’s music scene.  Expect tight arrangements\, soaring brass sections\, and rhythm that refuses to quit. This is big band music that swings hard and takes no prisoners. \nThe club and bar will be open from 2.30. \nRemember\, reservations are required for all events. Entry: members £12.00 non-members £15.00 \nThere is a 50% concession for students for all events. \n

SUMMARY:NIGEL PRICE PLAYS GUITAR AT GOOGLIES THURSDAY MARCH 12 2026
DESCRIPTION:Nigel Price has earned his reputation through sheer graft and musical brilliance. The awards tell the story: Parliamentary Jazz Award for Best Jazz Ensemble in 2010\, British Jazz Award for Best Guitarist in 2016\, plus multiple nominations along the way. \nHis guitar work marries bebop fluency with deep blues feeling and harmonic sophistication. He’s supported Gladys Knight at the Royal Albert Hall and played on Van Morrison’s “Keep Me Singing” album. His résumé includes stints with acid jazz crew The Filthy Six\, three years in James Taylor’s band\, and sessions with the legendary David Axelrod.\nNigel cut his teeth touring Europe with reggae and funk outfits before jazz claimed him completely. Wes Montgomery\, Joe Pass\, John McLaughlin and the Mahavishnu Orchestra shaped his sound. He learned by showing up\, sitting in\, and absorbing everything the scene offered.\nOver 50 albums bear his name\, including five as leader. He organises his own tours\, teaches guitar\, and gigs relentlessly. This is a musician who never stops working\, never stops swinging. \nWelcome back to a true Googlies regular.

SUMMARY:DAVE O'HIGGINS PLAYS SAX AT GOOGLIES THURSDAY MARCH 19 2026
DESCRIPTION:The Observer nailed it: Dave O’Higgins plays with exceptional fluency and his ideas never run dry. His tenor and soprano sounds are instantly recognisable\, drawing from a palette that spans Charlie Parker through to Michael Brecker. \nDave’s CV reads like a masterclass in versatility. Frank Sinatra’s final London run at the Royal Albert Hall in 1992. A tour and album with Ray Charles. Collaborations stretching from Wayne Shorter and Joe Lovano through to Jamie Cullum and Kyle Eastwood. He’s played with the Darius Brubeck Quartet\, Jim Mullen\, Martin Taylor’s Spirit of Django\, and John Dankworth with Cleo Laine.Beyond performing\, Dave leads the Jazz Pathway at London College of Contemporary Media and runs JVG\, a specialist jazz recording studio where he blends Rudy Van Gelder’s vintage techniques with modern innovation.\nA British Jazz Award nominee who delivers every time. Another very welcome return to Googlies.

SUMMARY:CATHERINE LIMA ON VOCALS AT GOOGLIES THURSDAY MARCH 26 2026
DESCRIPTION:Catherine Lima returns to Googlies jazz club on Thursday March 26\, and if you’ve seen her before\, you already know to book fast. \nBorn in Chiswick\, shaped by Lancashire\, the Midlands and Madrid\, Lima brings a singer’s lifetime of wandering to every song she touches. On the London jazz circuit since 2001\, she has the hard-won ease of someone who genuinely loves what she does\, and it shows in every phrase.\nHer voice does remarkable things. It can hold a room in silence or set it alight\, moving from sultry to joyous inside a single standard. Her influences run deep\, from the cool intelligence of Anita O’Day to the emotional directness of Peggy Lee\, but what you hear on the night is unmistakably her own. She scats with confidence\, phrases with precision\, and never loses the emotional thread.\nThis is jazz singing at its most alive: witty\, warm\, and completely in the moment. \n
