We’re thrilled to welcome back vibraphone virtuoso Anthony Kerr, widely regarded as one of the most exciting vibes players in British jazz today.

Born in Belfast, Anthony studied at the Belfast School of Music before moving to New York in the mid-1980s to study with David Friedman and Kenny Werner. He won a scholarship to the New School of Jazz and Contemporary Music in 1987, launching a stellar international career.

Anthony’s impressive list of collaborators reads like a who’s who of jazz. He’s performed and recorded with George Shearing, Georgie Fame, Charlie Watts, Elvis Costello, Claire Martin, Peter King, Norma Winstone, Mike Westbrook, Louis Stewart, and many others. He’s been a long-serving soloist with the BBC Big Band since 1998 and continues to work with Georgie Fame and the Blue Flames.

His accolades began early. He won Best Instrumentalist at the 1994 British Jazz Awards, followed by Young Jazz Musician of the Year in 1995. He received Rising Star nominations in 1995, 1996 and 1998. His debut album First Cry, created with singer Jacqui Dankworth, reached number three in the Virgin Jazz Charts and received rave reviews. His second album Now Hear This was recorded live at Ronnie Scott’s in 1997.

Anthony has served as Professor of Jazz Vibraphone at the Royal College of Music for more than 20 years. He also teaches at the Royal Academy of Music and Guildhall School of Music and Drama. He works as a session musician and has been commissioned to write for television and radio.
