Julian Stringle Saxophones and Clarinet at Googlies Thursday November 20 2025 at Googlies

November 20 @ 7:00 pm - 11:30 pm
£10.00

WE’RE DELIGHTED TO WELCOME BACK AWARD-WINNING clarinettist Julian Marc Stringle, hailed by Sir John Dankworth as “the best clarinet player to emerge in British jazz for several decades.”

Julian started as a child prodigy reed player. He studied at the Latymer Music School and London College of Music, learning clarinet with Wilf Keeley and composition with William Lloyd Webber. He made his TV debut with Acker Bilk at just 14, leading his teenage Dixieland band “Young Jazz.” At 17, he formed a modern jazz quintet and toured Europe.

His impressive career includes performances with Peanuts Hucko, Wild Bill Davison, George Chisholm, Kenny Ball, Don Lusher, Kenny Baker, Cleo Laine and Sir John Dankworth. He’s recorded with Digby Fairweather, Paul Jones, Danny Moss, Roy Williams, Jim Mullen, Tommy Whittle, John Parricelli and many others. He’s appeared at Wembley Arena with Meatloaf and in Monaco with Tina Turner.

Julian has won Best Clarinettist at the British Jazz Awards twice (2006/7 and 2019). He’s written over 30 TV jingles and documentary film scores, arranged and conducted a big band album for Charles Aznavour in Paris, and recorded extensively under his own name.

He plays with The Dream Band, featuring keyboard virtuoso Neil Angilley, Canadian guitar star Dominic Ashworth, stylish vocalist Jacqui Hicks and dynamic drummer Mike Bradley. The band blends melodic Latin-influenced jazz funk with swing standards and original compositions. Recent performances have earned rave reviews for their chemistry and musical excellence.

With his contemporary approach, Julian has pioneered placing the clarinet in modern musical settings. His influences include Benny Goodman, Artie Shaw, Buddy DeFranco and Eddie Daniels. Always a highlight at Googlies, we’re thrilled to have Julian back.
