Steve Waterman has been one of Britain’s most consistently respected jazz trumpet players for decades, working across the British, European and international scene since his student days at Trinity College of Music. His discography runs to eight albums under his own name, and his wider credits are formidable: he has recorded on the ECM label with both John Surman’s Brass Project and the Carla Bley Big Band, and worked alongside Andy Sheppard, Mal Waldron, Tony Coe and Graham Collier among many others. In December 2002 he performed at the Havana Jazz Festival as a guest of Chucho Valdés. He co-wrote The Jazz Method for Trumpet, published by Schott, and teaches at Trinity College of Music, the Royal Northern College of Music and the Welsh College of Music and Drama. He also runs an annual Contemporary Big Band Weekend with Alan Barnes — who, as it happens, plays Googlies just five weeks before him. A serious musician with a warm and swinging sound.
