July and August 2026 Gigs at Googlies

WELCOME
Every Thursday evening, live jazz takes over Botany Bay Cricket Club, five minutes from Junction 24 of the M25 in Enfield. Googlies has become an intimate setting for some of the best jazz in London, we’ve been doing this since 2002 – and our efforts are run entirely by volunteers – in a room small enough that the musicians on stage are never far from the tables.
COMING UP
Over July and August the guest list includes some of the most respected names in British jazz. This very night, Thursday 2 July, we have alto and tenor sax from Simon Allen whose sound has turned up behind Paul McCartney, Jamie Cullum and the Birmingham Royal Ballet, and on the soundtrack to Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland. Liane Carroll, the only performer ever to win both Best Vocalist and Best of Jazz at the BBC Jazz Awards in the same year, brings us her piano and vocals on 9 July, with her husband Roger Carey on bass. On 30 July, Art Themen takes the stage: a saxophonist for six decades and a working orthopaedic surgeon for much of that time, who now plays a tenor saxophone that once belonged to Ronnie Scott himself. Closing out the run on 27 August is guitarist Nigel Price, who has made more than five hundred appearances at Ronnie Scott’s and spends almost as much energy fighting in Westminster for small rooms like this one to survive. There’s so much more, each artist worth the trip out to Enfield. The full programme is on our What’s On page.
A club like this survives on the same simple things: people turning up, and telling other people to turn up too. If this is the first you have heard of us, we hope it will not be the last. Come along, bring someone with you, and if you enjoy what you hear, tell a friend. That is how a small club like Googlies stays open.
