Ian Bateman on Trombone at Googlies Thursday October 30 2025
Welcome back to Ian Bateman on Trombone at Googlies.
Ian marked an incredible milestone in January 2025, celebrating 48 years as a professional musician. His career transformed in 2003 when he joined Acker Bilk and his Paramount Jazz Band, establishing Ian as a leading figure in British jazz. Today, Ian presents his own acclaimed jazz performances with various ensembles and his own orchestra. Nearly five decades of musical excellence.
Ian’s professional journey began in January 1977 with his stage debut at his local Swindon theatre, where he still resides. He joined the National Youth Jazz Orchestra of Great Britain (NYJO) and embarked on extensive European tours, performing in virtually every major theatre across the UK. Ian experienced NYJO during its golden era, including their memorable 1977 Royal Command Performance for HRH the Queen Mother. This televised performance reached the largest worldwide live audience of its time, creating unprecedented demand for NYJO’s performances with Ian contributing throughout this remarkable period.
